Bears

The future of bears and the safety of others depends on you.

If you are both observant and lucky you may be able to see a black bear during your visit. These are wild animals and are NOT to be harassed or fed. Once bears become accustomed to human food, they become a nuisance and a threat to your safety. Use the bear poles provided or hang food packs at least 10 feet off the ground and 4 feet away from tree trunks. Never keep food in or near your tent.

Food and Odors Attract Bears - All food, beverages, cooking equipment, pet food, and garbage MUST be in your control at all times. Garbage must also be packed out. Please do not place garbage or food scraps in the fire rings. Thank you for your cooperation.

Also, Avoid Confrontation! Don't surprise bears, make noises. Hike during daylight hours, in groups when possible. Keep a clean camp site because odors attract bears. Dogs antagonize bears, so keep your pet on a leash.
