A Word About Fees

If you play here, what you pay here stays here!

This recreation site is part of a Recreation Fee Pilot Project authorized by Congress in 1996. The purpose of this program is to test the effectiveness of collecting fees and keeping them on site to help maintain and improve recreation facilities and services. We hope you agree that reasonable user fees are better than closed recreation sites and reduced services.

How Will My Fees Be Used? Until this program, fees you paid at a Forest Service facility went into the Federal Treasury as general revenues. Under this new program, 80 percent of the fees collected will be immediately available for use at this site. The other 20 percent can be used only at other fee demonstration sites or for the cost of operating the program.

What Will My Fees Be Used For?
• Recreation facility repair and site maintenance
• Cultural and Natural interpretive programs
• Information and interpretive signing
• Habitat and facility enhancement
• Law enforcement and related visitor services

We Want To Know What You Think Please let us know if you support these fees and if you feel we're using them to improve the facilities, programs and opportunities that you enjoy. Results and recommendations will be reported to the public and to Congress each year of the program and will help decide the future of Federal recreation fees. Please send your comments and suggestions to: Munising Ranger District, 400 East Munising Avenue, Munising, Michigan 49862, (906) 387-2512.
